2024 TEACHER TRAINING

  • This program is designed to deepen the student’s own physical practice and the understanding of all aspects of the practice of yoga. Over the course of 8 weekends together, students will deep dive into yoga philosophy, yoga asana, anatomy, and practice teaching. Instruction is primarily in person with additional live online meetings and recorded content. The trainee will acquire the skills needed to instruct, teach, and guide classes in a safe and meaningful way.

    In addition to the 8 weekends and 8 zoom sessions, students are required to complete additional homework and out of classroom assignments which include:

    -Assigned readings

    -Observe 6 classes with written reflections

    -12 hour practicum including teaching 6 community service classes with reflections and 6 self lead home practices.

    -Take a minimum of 20 yoga classes in a studio setting after the start of the program.

    Dates: Each weekend we will meet from Friday 6-8:30pm, Saturday & Sunday 11-6:30pm. 8 additional meetings via Zoom held on a weeknight.

    As part of your teacher training participation, you will receive an unlimited yoga membership during your training. We want to encourage your personal practice and growth.

    At the end of this program, if you meet all course requirements and hours, you will be qualified to register with Yoga Alliance as a 200 hour Yoga Instructor. You will not be tested at the end of this course. Certification will be awarded to you based on participation and all homework completed and required hours fulfilled.

  • Yoga Humanities:

    -History of Yoga

    -Yoga Philosophy and the 8 Limbs of Yoga

    -Yoga Ethics on and off the mat

    Teaching Techniques:

    -Asana: Alignment and Sequencing

    -Subtle Anatomy: Chakras, Koshas, Pranayama practices

    -Meditation techniques, Mantra, and Mudras

    Anatomy and Physiology:

    -Muscles, Bones, and Joints of the Musculoskeletal System

    -Systems of the Body as they relate to the yoga practice

    -Biomechanics in the Asana, types of movement, Language of Motion

    Professional Essentials:

    -Teaching methodology including cueing, sequencing, class management, scope of practice

    -Professional development including ethics of yoga on and off the mat

    -Business of Yoga

    -Practice teaching and class observations

  • From early in the course, students will begin practice teaching. Practice teaching will evolve as the weeks pass, beginning with one-on-one teaching with other students, then small groups, to eventually the entire YTT class.

    It is the belief of the Om Lead Instructors that “practice makes perfect” and only with ample time spent using your voice, standing in front of the group, and actually teaching, will the Om Student grow to be an exceptional teacher.

  • A $500 deposit is required to hold your space. The remaining balance will we charged on the first weekend.

Trauma Sensitive Training

This training is specifically for professionals who are looking to become trauma informed in their lives, communities and occupations. The 20-hour foundational training, 14 hours in person and 6 hours of self-study, is designed for social workers, mental health clinicians, yoga teachers, educators, and health care professionals, etc who are looking to deepen their understanding of the whole-system impact of complex Trauma.

The body based practice can be adjusted to meet the needs of many different demographics and fields of interest. 

  • The training will encourage you to explore your understanding of trauma and the how it impacts the whole of the survivors life. It will emphasize the core components of the practice and process of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga and will provide specific tools to support participants to facilitate body based movement and breath practices that are vital to the healing process. Through developing an understanding of complex trauma, attachment theory, and the neuroscience underpinning the TCTSY methodology participants gain skills that support healing from long-term trauma. Participants will learn to foster this anti-oppressive approach to healing through a trauma-informed lens. You will learn how to meet survivors on their healing journey and explore a shared authentic experience of embodiment. You will gain a foundational understanding of this empowerment based program that facilitates a present moment experience of safety and predictability. Group lectures, practice through movement and breath as well as group practicum will be offered.

  • ​Keri Sawyer E-RYT 500, YACEP, TCTSY Licensed Trainer

    Keri Sawyer has over a decade of experience facilitating movement and breath practices, embodiment, and trauma informed practices. She is a seasoned speaker and facilitator who has trained thousands of people as an experienced 500 hour yoga teacher and licensed trainer with the Center for Trauma and Embodiment. Keri provides trauma sensitive yoga to trauma survivors of all ages, facilitates trainings for yoga teachers and healthcare workers, and provides research-based information and trauma-informed treatment practices to the therapeutic world. She oversees the implementation of of trauma informed practices into therapeutic models in clinical and residential treatment programs across the country along with agency trainings and regular consultation for mental health clinicians, therapists, nurses, massage therapists, yoga teachers and more. Her passion is to provide an opportunity for survivors of trauma to have an authentic experience with a safe and predictable felt sense of their body along with spreading awareness of trauma-informed practices.
